Ο Ορθοπεδικός Χειρουργός Αθανάσιος Γεωργοκώστας έχει εξειδίκευση στις αθλητικές κακώσεις και την επανορθωτική χειρουργική κάτω άκρων.

Έχει ολοκληρώσει την εξειδίκευσή του στο Τμήμα Αθλητικών Κακώσεων Γόνατος του Νοσοκομείου Santy and Jean Mermoz στη Λυών της Γαλλίας το 2018.

Επίσης, έχει εξειδικευτεί στο Τμήμα Αθλητικών Κακώσεων και Επανορθωτικής Χειρουργικής Κάτω Άκρου του Hinchingbrooke Hospital NHS, Cambridge, στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο κατά το διάστημα 2014-2015.

Είναι αριστούχος απόφοιτος της Ιατρικής Σχολής Roma Tor Vergata της Ρώμης, όπου αποφοίτησε το 2005, ενώ κατέχει το δίπλωμα ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support by American College of Surgeons) από το 2014.

Είναι μέλος του Ιατρικού Συλλόγου Αθηνών, καθώς και του General Medical Council του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου (GMC). Είναι επίσης μέλος της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Χειρουργικής Ορθοπεδικής & Τραυματολογίας (ΕΕΧΟΤ), της Ελληνικής Αρθροσκοπικής Εταιρείας και της European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).

Από το 2021 συνεργάζεται με το Ιατρικό Κέντρο Αθηνών στην Κλινική Ψυχικού, ενώ από το 2020 είναι Συνεργάτης της Γ´ Ορθοπεδικής Κλινικής στο Νοσοκομείο ΥΓΕΙΑ.

Έχει επίσης διατελέσει Ειδικευμένος Ορθοπεδικός Χειρουργός στην Η’ Ορθοπεδική Κλινική – Τμήμα Ώμου του Ασκληπιείου Βούλας από το 2016 έως το 2018, ενώ προηγουμένως ολοκλήρωσε την ειδίκευσή του στο ίδιο τμήμα.

Διατηρεί ιδιωτικό ιατρείο από το 2018.

Τα κλινικά και ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται στις αθλητικές κακώσεις και στη χρήση σύγχρονων τεχνικών, όπως η αρθροσκοπική και επανορθωτική – ρομποτική χειρουργική γόνατος και ισχίου, καθώς και στις τεχνικές ελάχιστης επεμβατικότητας.

Ο Ορθοπεδικός Χειρουργός Αθανάσιος Γεωργοκώστας έχει παρακολουθήσει πληθώρα εκπαιδευτικών σεμιναρίων και έχει συμμετάσχει σε πλήθος παρουσιάσεων και δημοσιεύσεων.
